This is a blog where images collected from residents are posted. In my recent endeavor exploring the need and potential for art making, art therapy, any art focused activity with this population, I have found a wide and expansive area for growth. And I have met the most wonderfully determined and inspiring people!!

My program is mainly a painting one, although a different activity, such as collage can serve to jump start color sense, enthusiasm, and a sense of fun sometimes. The primary focus of my program, besides color mixing continually, is on these many and various goals:

* enhance quality of life and sense of well-being
* learn new and interesting skills, thought into image
* encourage group social participation and belonging
* exercise of eye to hand and fine motor coordination
* foster self-esteem, self-worth through positive experiences
* allow residents a feeling of control over their environment
* increase self-awareness, transcend self and trivialities
* improve memory and self-identity
* experience enjoyment and loss of self-consciousness
* provide opportunities for self-expression
